The Pineappleman no longer with the element of surprise took off at a run towards the back of the steam wheeler. A gunshot rang out from the second level. He dove and rolled coming up behind some cargo crates. near the back. With his gun in his hand he fired back. Several men now crept along the opposite side of the lower level towards the back using the protection of the inside portion of the boat to approach the Pineappleman's position. Another shot rang out piercing the crate in front of him. He had to act fast before they were able to pin him down.
